Do not book the return flight too early

Your return date should be set once your surgical dates are confirmed, with enough margin for the postoperative review before you fly. A cheap non-flexible ticket booked in advance is the commonest reason patients feel pressured to travel before they are ready.

Clearance to fly

You fly home when your surgeon confirms you are fit to. That review checks the wound, the swelling and your pain control. Ask for it explicitly — it should be part of the plan, not something you have to request.

Making the journey comfortable

  • Wear loose clothing and supportive underwear as advised.
  • Take your pain relief before you leave for the airport rather than once discomfort builds.
  • Book an aisle seat so you can stand and move.
  • Walk and move your legs periodically. Follow any thrombosis-prevention advice you have been given.
  • Arrange assistance at the airport if you have a long walk or a connection.
  • Avoid lifting your own luggage.

Security screening

An inflatable penile implant does not normally trigger airport metal detectors, and there is no requirement to declare it. If you are given an implant identification card, keep it with you — not because screening demands it, but because it records the device make, model and size, which is genuinely useful in any future medical assessment.

What to carry home

  • Your operation note and discharge summary in English.
  • The implant card or device details.
  • Your medication, in hand luggage, with enough to cover delays.
  • Written aftercare instructions and the warning signs to watch for.
  • Direct contact details for the surgical team, and the arrangements for remote follow-up.

Ask whether a penile implant is right for you

Send your medical history and Prof. Dr. Alıcı will review it personally. You will receive an honest assessment of whether an implant is appropriate, which device would be considered, and an itemised written quotation. There is no charge and no obligation.
