Background
Prof. Dr. Bülent Alıcı is a urologist and andrologist based in Istanbul whose clinical and academic work centres on male reproductive and sexual health. Born in Gaziantep in 1959, he qualified in medicine at Istanbul University in 1983, trained in urology at Cerrahpaşa, and studied andrology and microsurgery in the United States at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center and at Baylor College of Medicine. He spent twenty-two years on the Cerrahpaşa urology faculty, becoming Associate Professor in 1999 and Professor in 2005, and now runs a private practice in Teşvikiye where he sees his own patients before and after surgery.
Surgery is carried out by Prof. Dr. Alıcı personally. Preoperative assessment and postoperative reviews are also carried out by him rather than delegated.
International patients are assessed remotely first, then examined in person in Istanbul before surgery is confirmed.

Academic career
He joined the urology faculty of Istanbul University Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine in 1992 and stayed for twenty-two years, concentrating on andrology and reconstructive surgery. He was appointed Associate Professor in 1999 and Professor in 2005. Cerrahpaşa is one of Türkiye's two oldest medical faculties, and its urology department is where he both trained and taught.
Andrology and microsurgery abroad
In 1990 he worked in andrology and microsurgery at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center and at St Luke's Hospital, Baylor College of Medicine, in Houston. Microsurgical technique learned there underpins the reconstructive side of his practice — urethral reconstruction, varicocele repair and implant surgery in scarred or previously operated tissue.
